With its dazzling architecture and out of this world views the Fairmont Hotel is viewed as one of the premier places to stay in San Francisco. Of course to get the most out of your stay you need to head down to the bar on the ground floor known as the Tonga Room.
Sporting a tropical setting complete with tiki huts, palm trees and a buffet sitting in the middle of a boat's deck, you will swear you are on Gilligan's Island. Of course storms can be a very serious threat to islands so you may want to keep your eyes and ears open for "monsoons" rainstorms that have been known to hit the "lagoon" which is situated in the middle of the bar.
No trip to a tropical island would complete without a fruity drink. Drinks are sweet and juicy as they are mixed with vodka or rum. Go ahead and pick if you want your zombie served in a hula-girl or tiki head glass, just don't have too many zombies or you may wake up feeling as though your brains have been devoured.
For those that aren't looking to break the bank by buying drinks, stop by the happy hour that runs from 5 p.m.- 7 p.m. on weeknights. Not only can you drink for cheap, you can also stuff your belly on a buffet of potstickers, ribs, Shanghai noodles and fruit.
Of course its not just about the drinks or happy hour specials, the Tonga Room also serves a the perfect date spot. The dimly lit corners are the perfect place to sit back and talk about the colorful dècor and give you the chance to really get close. After 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, you can even tear up the dance floor as a live band rocks the bar.
