The Barbary Coast Trail
88 5th St
San Francisco, CA 94103

The history of California is filled with tales of exploration. Now visitors to the Barbary Coast Trail can experience recreations of some of California biggest events, ranging from the Gold Rush and running all the way to the Beat renaissance.
A series of bronze arrows and medallions that are embedded in the sidewalks led guests along the 3.8 mile path and winds through San Francisco neighborhoods such as Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf, North Beach, Chinatown, Jackson Square Historic District and the Old Barbary Coast.
In order to get the most out of your tour, guests have three ways to take the tour. The audio tour allows people to download the audio tour onto your iPod or MP3. You will be able to hear the first rumblings of the 1906 earthquake, hear the ground tremble under the hoofbeats of the Pony Express or hear the sounds of clipper ships unfurling their sails in the bay. If you don't have an MP3 or iPod with you, you may want to take the printed guide tour where you can pick up a couple of printed guides at city bookstores. For those that are looking for a more personalized tour, trail creator Daniel Bacon is available to be your personal tour guide and can give insight into each landmark. Appointments are needed for those looking to take the guided tour.
For those that are looking to get an inside look at some of California's most important moments, the Barbary Coast Trail takes you through history step by step.
