Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market

Whether you are looking for the freshest vegetables or just looking for a jar of that tasty jam the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market is the place for you.
Operated by the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture, the market is open four days a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday). While the Thursday and Sunday markets are open seasonally from spring to fall, the other two are held year round. Saturday is the largest market and it is held in front of the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero as well as the rear plaza that overlooks the Bay. Space is even more valuable on other days as the market often spills out onto the Embacadero sidewalk. The market is the perfect place for shoppers that are looking for organic materials as each of the farmers and ranchers are certified in organics. That's not where the shopping ends, though. Shoppers can take their pick from items such as breads, cheeses and jams.
What started as a once a year event in 1992 has now grown into an even that sees 10,000-15,000 shoppers frequent the market as they search for various foods. The market also offers help for those wanting advice on how to get the most out of their cooking. Weekly cooking demonstrations and farmer interviews are presented free to the public in the Arcade area.
For the aspiring cook or the person that just wants to make some healthy changes to their diet, the Ferry plaza Market is the place you want to head.
