With a self described mission of educating children through exploration, it's no wonder that the Bay Area Discovery Museum has become a favorite of children and parents alike.
Sitting on seven and a half acres in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the museum has attempted to recreate the habitat that lies beneath the Golden Gate Bridge and deep in the water of the Bay. In addition to pay homage to the bay, the museum also features an art studio where kids can lay their inner Picasso or Michelangelo come out. The Lookout Cove is a specially designed area where kids are allowed to dig until they cover themselves with dirt until their heart's content. There is also a tiny tot area where the small ones can take a small play break. The final piece of the complex includes a theater which seats 180 people. It is the perfect place for the whole family to take in everything from circus acts all the way to puppet shows.
Of course the museum doesn't rely on just a bunch of informational signs or videos, the museum has earned national recognition for its groundbreaking displays and exhibits. Each display is designed to offer hands-on experience in science, media and environment.
For those that are looking to take the kids to a place that can be as informational as it can be fun, the Bay Area Discovery Museum is the place you have been looking for. Who knows, you may just learn something yourself
